Harrow & Wealdstone in 1952, Eschede in 1998, Halle in 2010, Santiago de Compostela in 2013, Rastatt Tunnel in 2017, Bad Aibling in 2016 — each of these accidents traces back to a gap that automated Command and Control Systems are specifically built to close: enforcing speed limits, detecting trains in real time, and intervening before human error becomes a collision or derailment.

This course walks through how CCS actually does that — continuous data flow between trains and control centres, automated braking and route enforcement through ATP/ATC, and the global systems (ETCS, CBTC, interlocking, TMS) that make it possible — and closes with a structured technical assignment applying ETCS principles to the Eschede disaster itself.
