Axle Counters Replaced Track Circuits for a Reason

Train detection has to work every time, on every section, regardless of ballast condition, rail corrosion, or insulation faults that can trip up traditional track circuits. Axle counters solve that problem differently — counting axles in and out of a section rather than relying on a continuous electrical circuit — which is why SSDAC and its high-availability variant, HASSDAC, have become standard on critical and high-density sections.

This course covers that system end to end: how the track unit, evaluation unit, and display panel work together to detect train presence, what redundancy and fault tolerance actually mean in HASSDAC's design, and how the whole system integrates with interlocking and signaling in daily operation — including the troubleshooting and failure scenarios a technician actually encounters.
